Review of my GENERAC 17500 Generator 10/24/12 .mpg
Video Rating: 5 / 5
Many people have been wondering about inverter generators. Everyone knows that the Honda EU series of inverter generators and the Yamaha inverter generators ... Video Rating: 4 / 5
its a really large and heavy unit - how difficult is it to move, e.g. could you move it across 10 yards of gravel on your own? also, most say not to use the idle control when connected to home cause it an damage sensitive electronics - do you use this feature when powering your home?
I was watching how much cash I was spending because I knew that I would have to spend 700-800 hundred dollars to have a electrician hook up the wiring properly. Thanks
I took it to a dealer in town because it had a missing sound in it. I only had .4 hours on it. Now the miss is going away because I have been running it for hours at a time for a break in period. I have had the Electrician hook up the needed wiring to the house and it works great. I can run everything in the house that needs to run during a emergency.
We gave serious consideration to buying this generator, but ultimately settled on a Generac 20kw standby unit. Nothing against this unit, but simplicity of a standby unit was just a more ideal solution for us. It has worked great.
I own Generac, Troy-Built, and 3 Honda's. I use them to backup my store and my house. I can tell you Honda is the best on the market today. I only buy Honda. When the Generac and Troy-built go I will replace them with another Honda. My Troy-Built burns a gallon and hour. Troy-Built is good but,Too much gas and very LOUD.
The Champion inverter generators don't compare to a Honda though. I've tested them both and the Champion doesn't put out it's advertised watts. Probably better than these two though.
Good video well said.l owned a Honda eu2000i as you did and hands down best generator for camping which is what I used it for.l want another one but 1000 buxs ouch. They last forever though!!!
RoadTrain01 , the generac is loud, I can personally assure you of that. it works yes, but you need to jam cotton in your ears if you need to work near it for any extended time. They both work fine, but Generac is louder.
yeah I have decided on a Honda EU3000is in the end.. In the end you are right about one glaring point.. spend the extra money for the reliability and quietness of the honda. I will be relying on it a lot. thanks for the info.
You may think so but I assure you that the Generac was extremely loud compared to the Honeywell. In the end they were both inferior. Get a Honda and don't look back.
first of all you placed the generac nearer the wall that will reflact the exhaust noise off the wall. and you have the honeywell slightly further back and exhaust facing open to the street and driveway..2) you started the generac that second time you left the choke switched on when it didnt need to be and let it load up before slowly switching it off.. then you had the nerve to comment, to be fair? LOL , this unfair by placement for as well as the way in which you operated them differently...
Hi, I live in Australia and I've just bought a Chinese 240v (We are 240v here) 3000 watt rated (not peak) inverter generator from ebay for $630 with free postage. It hasn't arrived here yet, but I have heard the week point is the inverter failing on these generators. I agree they won't be Honda quality but I won't be needing to us this generator that much. I could never afford $4000 here for the equivalent size Honda generator.
Giving it away wasn't a bad choice either unless it was under warranty, the inverter components are epoxied to the inverter body which is not serviceable. Yes Honda or Yamaha is the way to go-lesson learned!
Nope, It stopped making power and I couldn't figure it out. I basically gave it away. I will only own Honda generators for now on. Thanks for the tip though.
Vegas, do you still have the honeywell? If so check the lower front panel area, there is a battery tray that crushes the large capacitors causing power failure.
Honda or Yamaha? I have owned both and they are both excellent machines. You honestly can't go wrong with either one. I would say let the price be the deciding factor. I myself am a Honda guy when it comes to generators.
thanks for the fuel advice. And yes the Honda/Yamaha see to be the "no brainer" choices but for the rare times I loose power I can't really justify the cost. again thanks for the video
If you don't mind the noise then the Generac ran fine and was easy to start. I have since learned that there are only two "reliable" well built inverter generators on the market and that's Honda & Yamaha. The Generac would be fine for emergencies though. Just remember to use a good fuel stabilizer or drain the fuel & run the carb dry before storing. Otherwise the carb will gum up and won't run correctly. Same goes with any small gas engine. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the demo of the two. I really liked that you commented on how easy to start each model was. Based on that I'm inclined to get the Generac as it will only be for emergencies.
Trust me on this, The Generac was MUCH louder. In the end they both ended up being Chinese garbage. I bought a Honda EU series & haven't looked back since.
how about converting it to Natural Gas?
ReplyDeleteThanks, gave me the info I was looking for. I am buying one exactly like it for a mobile kitchen application I have. thnx again.

ReplyDeleteduhh? Not sure what you mean by that?
ReplyDeleteGenerac does not make the best small generator ,but they mainly make home stand by generators and industrial generators duhh
